Our prayers go out to the Miller family and their employees during this incredibly difficult time. What happened at Miller’s Smokehouse is devastating not only for the family and staff who depend on the business every day, but also for the city of Belton and the entire barbecue community that has supported them for years.

In an early morning fire that is currently believed to have started in the kitchen area at Miller’s BBQ, heavy smoke quickly filled the downtown Belton area. First responders were on scene overnight working to contain the blaze and secure the structure. By approximately 2:30 a.m., driven by a northwestern wind, smoke could be seen and smelled several blocks away. I personally witnessed the smoke crossing over Interstate 35 as it moved east through Belton, a clear sign of how intense the fire was in those early hours.

From a source close to the business, it is estimated that it could be six to nine months before they are able to reopen. That kind of timeline is never easy for a small business, especially one that has become such a staple in the community. The impact reaches beyond the building itself, touching employees, suppliers, loyal customers, and local families who gather there regularly.

From an early look at the structure, the damage appears serious but could have been far worse. There is hope that the core structure remains intact and that restoration can move forward as quickly as possible. Officials continue to evaluate the cause and the full extent of the structural impact as the community waits for further updates.

Belton has always rallied around its own, and the barbecue community across Texas understands how much heart, sacrifice, and hard work goes into running a place like Miller’s.

Texas Barbecue stands with the Miller family and their team, and we look forward to the day the Pits of Miller’s Smokehouse are up and running again in downtown Belton.
