Took a walk back in time yesterday at the Original location of Riscky’s BAR-B-Q on Azle Ave in

Ft.Worth, where the Riscky Family has been smoking BBQ for 99 years. Is it Craft BBQ? No, but

it’s decent Old School Ft. Worth BBQ and very affordable. You can still get a bag of 4 Chopped

Beef Sandwiches for $5 or the AYCE Beef Back Ribs for $19.99.

I went with a 2 Meat plate, Beef Back Ribs and Sliced Brisket (lean is the only option) and added

Pork ribs. 3 sides were Pinto Beans, Coleslaw and Potato Salad with Banana Pudding and Iced

Tea which all came up to just over $30 including tax.

Both the Beef Back Ribs and Pork Ribs were thin on the meat side, but both had good flavor with

Riscky’s proprietary rub, and both had a good bite. No sauce needed. The Original BBQ sauce

was a bit thin and very sweet with an Apple flavor, while the Sweet & Spicy sauce was a little

thicker, not quite as sweet and had a little kick to it. The lean Brisket wasn’t overly dry, but the

Sweet & Spicy sauce paired well with it. The Sides and Banana Pudding were all pretty standard,

nice but nothing stood out or failed.

This location was a walk back in time, almost museum like. Definitely felt like a BBQ joint from

yesteryear. If you’re expecting Great BBQ, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to experience

a Century of Old School Ft.Worth BBQ at an affordable price in a pretty cool old spot, give it a

try.
