My last article was about Riscky’s BAR-B-Q in Fort Worth, the oldest of the three Legacy BBQ Joints. Riscky’s was founded in 1927.
This trip took me to Sammie’s BBQ at 3801 E. Belknap in Fort Worth, just across I-35W from downtown. Sammie’s was established in 1946 and has been brought back to life by the Gibbins family, with Sam Jr. running the pits and handling the day-to-day operation.
Great Old School BBQ with a large main dining room, huge bar and seating area and an expansive outdoor patio.
They have “Great” daily specials.
Tuesday: Ribs
Wednesday: Pulled Pork Sandwich
Thursday: Smoked Chicken
Friday: 2″+ Smoked Pork Chop
Saturday: Smashburgers

I’ve had all the specials, and they either come with two sides or fries. All are fantastic.
The brisket isn’t Craft BBQ by today’s standards, but it’s still a solid plate of barbecue.
Ribs are among the best in North Texas. Great flavor with a dry rub, perfect bite with no tug and good smoke.
Smoked Sausage, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and Hot Links are all good, with the Links being my favorite, with good flavor and a little heat.
Turkey, Ham and Bologna are all really good, and you can get them by the half pound or on a sandwich.
Love the Smashburger, and it comes with a ton of fries. LOL.

Sides are pretty basic, but good. Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Pinto Beans and Green Beans. My personal favorites are the Twice Baked Potato Casserole, Fried Okra, Fried Jalapeño Cheddar Poppers and the Best Onion Rings in Texas!!
The Cream Cheese and Brisket-stuffed Texas Twinkies, Buffalo Hot Wings, Fried Pickles and Brisket Tacos are all delicious, and you can wash it all down with an ice-cold schooner of your favorite beer.
When you walk through the door at Sammie’s, you know you’ve walked into a BBQ Joint.
It just has the look and feel of a Classic BBQ Establishment. You know you’ll have good food, good service and a good time at a reasonable price. A place that feels like everybody knows everybody.
This is an Old School BBQ Joint you need to visit in Fort Worth. Definitely a Cowtown Classic.
Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10:30 – 7pm.
